    Present research uses “self-assembly” and “molecular engineering” approaches to tailor size, shape, sequence, and functionality of organic/hybrid functional materials and to create ordered structures in order to explore potential applications in energy, photonics, opto-electronics, nanomedicine, and nanotechnology.    Current interdisciplinary research group includes 14 postdoctoral researchers, 15 Ph.D. graduate students, and 3 undergraduate students with very diverse academic background in material chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials science and engineering, surface sciences, physics, and electrical engineering.      Established reputation as an international leader for innovative research and technology development in functional materials, photonics, energy, organic electronics, and nanotechnology. Published more than 450 papers with an H index of 52 (52 papers cited 52 or more times) and more than 10,000 citations.     Played an essential role in developing several large Center programs at the UW by securing more than $85 million funding within 6 years.

Work experience (工作经历)
1.    于1992首次合成的全规则-3-烷基聚噻酚 (Regio-regular Poly-3-Alkylthiophine),自成功合成以来的这十几年来一直是有机薄膜晶体管(OTFT: Organic Thin Film Transistor)和有机光伏(OPV: Organic Photovoltaic)研究的最重要材料之一, 也是这一研究领域的基础材料。发表于美国化学会志的原始论文(J. Am. Chem. Soc. (1992), 114(25), 10087-8; 和J. Am. Chem. Soc. (1995), 117(1), 233-44) 被英国化学会的“化学与工业“杂志报道(British Chemical Society, Chemical & Industry 18, January 1993, page 57),十几年来被引用超过五百次。
     2.    与Alex Jen 教授共同发表的光学非线性有机高分子的直接侧基功能化研究论文(J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1995, 117, 7295-7296)也多次被美国化学会的“化学与工程周刊“ 报道(Chemical & Engineer NewsJuly 17, 1995 page 50 和Chemical & Engineer News March 4, 1996 page 26)。
